Sally grew up in a small town in Wisconsin and has been an active oil painter for almost 30 years in the Realist tradition. Her love for nature and animals has led her to concentrate on painting North American wildlife, domestic animals and household pets, especially dogs. She loves traveling the back roads of Wisconsin where there is a wealth of inspirational scenery and farm animals just begging to be painted.
Her greatest joy is to come across animals in the wild and to be able to watch them interact with each other and just be themselves. Her favorite trips have been to the ice floes of the Gulf of St. Lawrence to watch Harp Seal pups and Polar Bear watching in Churchill, Manitoba.
She is a member of the Society of Animal Artists, Oil Painters of America, and a Signature member of the Paint America Association and Artists for Conservation.
She has been juried into many national exhibitions including Birds in Art at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, WI, several Oil Painters of America’s National and Regional shows, Arts for the Parks Top 100, the Society of Animal Artists Art and the Animal Juried Annuals and has won first prizes in the “animals” category of the Artist’s Magazine’s annual art competition and the Art Show at the Dog Show in Wichita, KS. She was honored to be in a 3 person show at the AKC Museum of the Dog in St. Louis where the museum purchased her painting of two Golden Retrievers for their permanent collection.
She studied at the Gordon School of Art in Green Bay and has attended many workshops with numerous nationally recognized wildlife artists and oil painters. Sally finds art is a never-ending quest for knowledge and always wants to learn more.
Her works are in the permanent collections of the AKC Museum of the Dog, St. Louis, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, Wausau, the Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art, Bolivar, MO, the Neville Public Museum of Brown County, Green Bay, and Dewey Ballentine, LLP, Washington, D.C.
Sally is happiest when interacting with animals whether at home or in the wild. She is active in the Golden Retriever Rescue of Wisconsin and has one very active Golden of her own.
