Artist's Statement — I was raised in Wisconsin and graduated from Lawrence University. I was inspired at an ealy to make things by my creative mother. She would cut animal shapes out of our cheese slices and encouraged me to enter Ivory Soap sculpture contests.

After college I got a masters degree from Harvard and taught math for four years before getting back to more creative pursuits. I became a weaver while working summers on a commercial halibut boat in Alaska belonging to my husband-to-be. That’s where the fish come in. After our children were born, my husband started a series of publications including the Alaska Fisherman’s Journal, Seafood Leader, Simply Seafood and Spa magazines. I was the art director of these publications and head of the design team.

In 1990 we lost our twelve year old son to brain cancer, which was devastating to our family. Through death I discovered the wonder of life and an appreciation for the natural world in all its mystery. I also learned the healing power of art.

We sold the publishing business in 2000 and I chose to persue my passion for painting.. Initially I only wanted to be able to express myself well in paint. I have found that what I want to say has struck a cord with many people and I have been encouraged by collectors purchasing my work and the awards I have received. I'm excited to continue sharing my artistic vision with others.
